Ladies Wedding Ring FAQ's
What is the Best Metal for my Wedding Ring?
If you're wearing your wedding ring alongside your engagement ring, it’s important to match the metal hardness so they don’t wear each other down over time. So, if you have a platinum engagement ring, go for a platinum wedding ring. If your engagement ring is 18ct gold, stick with 18ct gold for your wedding band.
If you’re planning to wear your wedding ring on its own, platinum is the best choice if you like a silver-toned metal. It’s naturally white, really durable, and hypoallergenic, so it’ll stay looking great for years.
If you prefer gold, 18ct yellow gold is a perfect choice. It’s 75% pure gold, which gives it that rich, deep yellow color while still being strong enough for everyday wear.
Does my Wedding Ring have to match my Engagement Ring?
No, your wedding ring doesn’t have to be an exact match to your engagement ring—it’s all about what feels right for you. Some people love a perfectly matching set, while others prefer a mix-and-match look that still works well together. Here are a few ways to style them:
- Perfect Match: A wedding band designed to sit seamlessly alongside your engagement ring for a coordinated look.
- Complementary Contrast: A different metal or design that enhances your engagement ring without being identical.
- Stacking Style: Layering multiple rings with different textures, shapes, or gemstones to create a unique, personal look.
At the end of the day, your wedding ring should suit your style and be something you love wearing every day.
What are the most popular Wedding Ring Styles for Women?
The most popular wedding rings for women really come down to personal style, but there are a few timeless favorites that always stand out:
- Classic Plain Band: Simple, elegant, and never goes out of style. Choose a band which is rounded on the inside for a comfort fit.
- Diamond Eternity Band: Diamonds all the way around for serious sparkle.
- Half-Eternity Band: Diamonds on just the top half—still sparkly but easier to resize.
- Shaped Wedding Band: Designed to fit perfectly around an engagement ring for a seamless look.
- Vintage-Inspired Band: Engraving, filigree, and delicate details for an antique feel.
At the end of the day, your wedding ring should be something you love and feel great wearing every day.
What are Ethical Wedding Rings?
What exactly are ethical wedding rings? At Poppy Elder Fine Jewellery, these aren't just any rings – they're symbols of your love, crafted with a deep respect for people and the planet.
Ethical wedding rings are made from materials sourced in a way that’s mindful of environmental and social impacts. This means choosing conflict-free diamonds and gemstones, using recycled metals, or opting for Fairtrade Gold. By selecting these materials, we ensure that our jewellery-making doesn't harm the environment or exploit workers.
When you choose an ethical wedding ring from us, you're embracing a piece that’s not just beautiful but also responsible. It’s about wearing a ring that represents not just a commitment to each other but also to the values you hold dear.
So, ethical wedding rings are more than just jewellery. They’re a celebration of love, crafted with care, conscience, and a commitment to making a positive impact in the world. Ethics and sustainability are at the heart of each piece I create from the precious metals to the beautiful packaging. Read about our ethics here.
How to Get a Wedding Band to Match an Engagement Ring?
If you have a low or unusually shaped Engagement Ring it can be difficult to get a straight wedding ring to sit with your ring without a big gap. There are many different ways to fix this, one is with a V shaped wedding ring where you can use the gap as a feature of your wedding set. Another is to create a Bespoke Wedding ring that perfectly fits against your Engagement Ring without any gaps.
What are modern Wedding Ring styles?
Modern wedding rings include mixing band materials and engraving being used on the wedding band. Floral engraved wedding bands are increasing in popularity as they add a uniqueness to the piece, whilst being discrete and beautiful.
Is Platinum better than Gold for Wedding Rings?
If you are looking for a wedding band that is white or silver in colour, then yes I would recommend Platinum over White Gold. This is because white gold has a slightly yellow tone to it, because it is made up with a mixture of metals that include gold - which is naturally yellow. The white gold rings that you might be used to seeing as bright silver in colour have a plating to give that bright colour, but unfortunately this wears off and needs maintaining. Platinum is naturally silver in colour and doesn’t need this plating to give its appearance.
Of course if you like the natural tone of white gold without plating this is a good option, and if you’re looking for a gold coloured wedding band then I’d definitely suggest sticking to 18ct gold.
Discover Your Perfect Symbol of Love: Custom Ethical Wedding Rings
Ladies' Wedding Rings – Find Your Perfect Match
Your wedding ring is one of the most meaningful pieces of jewellery you’ll ever wear. It’s a symbol of love and commitment, a piece you’ll have on your finger every single day, so finding the right one is important.
Whether you’re drawn to a classic and simple band, a diamond-set design for extra sparkle, or something completely unique, there’s a perfect wedding ring for you.
With so many options available, from different metals and profiles to bespoke designs, it’s all about choosing a ring that complements your engagement ring while reflecting your personal style.
Diamond vs. Plain Wedding Bands – Which is Right for You?
One of the biggest decisions when choosing a wedding ring is whether to go for a plain band or a diamond-set design. Both have their own benefits, so it really comes down to your lifestyle, engagement ring style, and personal preference.
A diamond wedding band is a popular choice to sit alongside an engagement ring which has a diamond set band. If you want a perfect match I can create a bespoke wedding ring to make the perfect pair.
A plain wedding band, on the other hand, is timeless, elegant, and incredibly versatile. Available in different widths and profiles, a simple band is a great option for those who prefer understated elegance or want something practical for everyday wear.
If you’re unsure, try on both styles with your engagement ring to see what works best. Some brides even choose to have a plain wedding ring with the plan to later add a diamond set eternity ring to their set!
Choosing a Timeless Wedding Ring That Lasts a Lifetime
Your wedding ring is something you’ll wear for a lifetime, so choosing a design that stands the test of time is key. A well-made, classic ring will look just as beautiful in years to come as it does on your wedding day.
One of the biggest factors to consider is metal choice. Platinum is one of the most durable options - it’s naturally white, strong, and hypoallergenic. If you prefer gold, 18ct yellow or rose gold strikes the perfect balance between beauty and durability.
Comfort is also important. A court or comfort fit band has a slightly rounded interior, making it more comfortable to wear every day. The width of your ring should also complement your engagement ring - slimmer bands (2mm-3mm) are delicate and elegant, while wider bands (4mm-6mm) make more of a statement.
Simple designs, such as classic gold bands or diamond eternity rings, never go out of fashion. Think about how your ring will look in years to come, choosing something classic ensures you’ll love it forever.
Bespoke Wedding Rings – Create Something Truly Unique
For those who want something truly personal, a bespoke wedding ring is the perfect way to create a one-of-a-kind piece. A custom-made wedding ring allows you to design something that fits your engagement ring perfectly while reflecting your personality and style.
Bespoke rings can also feature engraving, adding sentimental touches such as initials, wedding dates, or even a secret message inside the band.
Bespoke rings are particularly popular for those with engagement rings that have unusual settings, where a standard straight band wouldn’t sit flush. Designing a custom ring ensures it fits perfectly and enhances the beauty of both rings together.
